1941 MW "Gene Autry" 1in. Western Belt

1941 MW "Gene Autry" 1in. Western Belt

The Montgomery Wards "Gene Autry" belt is officially back in the saddle again. This time around, it is not just a reproduction, but this belt marks a continuation of the original production, which began in 1941 using an original embossing roll of the same floral pattern and the same 1940s North & Judd buckle set.

A couple fun facts:

 1) You can see, in the original catalog listing, that they mislabeled the two belts. Gene Autry's face is actually on the buckle on the left, but we're still gonna go by the catalog listing, and incorrectly call this the Gene Autry belt.

2) This was indeed a popular embossing floral style for these western belts. As you can see, I have a few examples of it in my collection. I'm assuming the patter I have the embossing wheel for was the first and original, as it came from the most famous of the embossing companies of the era.
